We are pleased to welcome our guest speakers for the week. Let us tell you a bit more about them.
Roger Carswell
Roger was converted as a teenager and worked as a school teacher in West Yorkshire for over ten years.
Since 1983 he has been an itinerant evangelist taking university and church missions in many parts of the UK and beyond. He has written eleven books including “Things God Wants Us to Know” and “Where is God in a Messed-up World?”
He is married to Dot, has four children, and lives in Leeds.
David Hamilton
Born in Cookstown, Northern Ireland, David was a member of the UVF before his miraculous conversion in a Northern Ireland prison.
In his teens, he joined the UDA and by 18 was serving his first prison sentence. He joined the UVF immediately upon his release. He was eventually imprisoned again and sentenced to eleven years. His mother believed he was a hopeless case; but an old lady promised her she would pray for him every day for his heart to be changed.
While in prison, God intervened. David believed he was called to change utterly and committed his life to God. David has been pastoring Heaton Chapel Christian Church full time since taking up the post in 2004.
David is married to Sharon and they have 5 children
Haydn Davies
Haydn was a Wales under 21 footballer but one night dramatically changed the course of his life. A tragic car accident cut short what could have been a promising career in football.
Haydn was left disabled by the accident and two of his friends were killed. He has written of his experiences in his book, “A Night Out with the Boys: A Remarkable True Story of Hope”
Henry and Tara Olonga
Henry is a former Zimbabwean test cricketer who made his international debut in 1995, becoming the youngest player to represent Zimbabwe.
Henry achieved international recognition (along with team mate Andy Flower) in 2003 by wearing a black armband in a Cricket World Cup match to protest against the policies of Zimbabwe’s government, led by Robert Mugabe. The subsequent warrant for his arrest on charges of treason (which carries the death penalty in Zimbabwe) forced him to retire from international cricket. He regards the protest as a step of faith. He says, “As I look back I have no doubt God called me to do what I did. God has always provided for me. I’ve never been disappointed with him.”
Henry has a superb voice and has recently completed recording a full contemporary pop album (http://cdbaby.com/cd/henryolonga).
